In a spirited show of leadership and commitment to staff wellbeing, the Executive Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), Victor Muruako, Esq., on Saturday, May 17, 2025, led staff on a health walk through the Asokoro district of Abuja undaunted by an early morning downpour.
The exercise, which marked the Commission’s first health-focused event of the year, drew impressive participation from top management and staff members, including the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Alhaji Muhammad Zailani; five Deputy Directors; and other senior officials. Notably present was the Commission’s recently retired Head of Finance and Accounts, Mr. Sule Unekwuojo, accompanied by his wife, Hajia Maimuna Unekwuojo, and their son, Awal Unekwuojo.
Speaking to participants during the walk, Chairman Muruako praised the turnout and described the event as “a reflection of the unity and resilience of the FRC family.”
“Even in the rain, we’ve shown that happiness is free, and our wellness matters,” he said. “This walk isn’t just about fitness it’s about bonding, team spirit, and reminding ourselves to take moments that nourish our health and hearts.”
The event also served as a tribute to Mr. Unekwuojo’s distinguished service, with the Chairman publicly acknowledging his contributions to the Commission and encouraging his continued engagement in future Commission activities.
In a bid to institutionalize the culture of wellness, Muruako announced that the health walk will now hold monthly, aimed at fostering physical fitness and mental wellness across departments. He also introduced Mr. Adedayo Akeem Jagun as the acting coach of the FRC Sports Team, to serve a three-month probation period ahead of possible confirmation.
“You never know when something good might come your way,” Muruako added, urging more staff to take part in future walks and internal sporting events.
In his farewell remarks, Mr. Unekwuojo expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Commission for the recognition and support extended to him and his family.
“I am deeply honoured by this gesture. It’s a privilege to have worked with such a dedicated team,” he said. He also formally handed over his role as sports coach to Mr. Jagun, expressing confidence in his successor’s ability to build on the Commission’s sports initiatives.
The walk concluded with participants in high spirits, underscoring a renewed commitment to wellness, teamwork, and organizational cohesion within the FRC.
