The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the personal particulars of candidates contesting in the 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election, following the conclusion of party primaries and the closure of the nomination submission portal.

According to Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, a total of sixteen political parties submitted the nomination forms of their governorship candidates and their running mates before the deadline of 6:00 p.m. on Monday, 12th May 2025, when the dedicated portal automatically closed.

In compliance with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and in line with item 4 of the Commission’s Timetable and Schedule of Activities, INEC has displayed the personal particulars of each candidate. The published documents include Form EC9, academic certificates, and other credentials submitted by the candidates. These materials have been posted at the Commission’s State Headquarters in Awka and in all 21 Local Government Area offices across Anambra State.

INEC has called on Nigerians to thoroughly review the displayed documents. Mr. Olumekun advised that any aspirant who took part in the party primaries and has credible evidence to believe that a candidate submitted false information has the legal right to challenge such a nomination in a Federal High Court, in accordance with Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022.

He further stated that the final list of validly nominated candidates will be published on 9th June 2025, in line with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act, which requires the final list to be released at least 150 days before the election. This step also corresponds with item 7 of the election timetable.

The 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, 8th November 2025.
