The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), in partnership with Youth Digest, has successfully concluded a three-day hybrid workshop aimed at enhancing the strategic communication skills of its Public Relations personnel.

The training, which took place from 7 to 9 May 2025 at the NCS Headquarters in Abuja, was attended by Command Public Relations Officers, editors, reporters, and personnel from the PR Unit. The sessions focused on leveraging digital tools, storytelling, and communication strategies to improve the NCS’s public engagement and institutional image.

Participants benefited from interactive sessions on editorial processes, inclusive language, house style development, media law, design principles, and visual storytelling, all led by seasoned professionals in journalism, communication, and digital innovation.

Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, the Assistant Comptroller-General, Isah Umar, highlighted the critical role of communication in the ongoing reforms within the Service.

“Today marks a key step in the development of officers charged with promoting the Nigeria Customs Service,” said ACG Umar. “Capacity building is essential. I urge our younger officers to learn from the expertise of the professionals gathered here.”

Also speaking at the workshop, the Assistant Comptroller and National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, emphasized the need for continuous learning and professional growth.

“This training is vital. Knowledge is endless, and we must seize every opportunity to grow. What we’ve learned here can greatly enhance our professional effectiveness,” he said. “In the past three days, we’ve shared valuable insights. Let’s apply these lessons to improve both ourselves and the Service.”

The workshop ended with a certificate presentation ceremony, marking the participants’ successful completion and their commitment to improving communication practices within the NCS.
