The Nigeria Police Force has relaunched the Tinted Glass Permit (TGP) issuance program nationwide through a digital platform, available at https://www.possap.gov.ng under the directive of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi the force public relations officer, FPRO, in an official signed statement disclosed that the move aims to regulate the use of tinted windows on vehicles, addressing public concerns over harassment by police officers and ensuring a transparent process for legitimate users.
He further disclosed that the initiative seeks to balance the need for public safety with the increasing prevalence of factory-fitted tinted windows on modern vehicles. While tinted vehicles have been linked to various crimes, the permit system will enable the police to identify lawful users, such as individuals with medical requirements or security personnel, and prevent misuse.
The online application process features identity verification through National Identification Number (NIN) and Tax Identification Number (TIN), biometric capture, and background checks. Applicants will receive QR-coded digital permits within 72 hours.
A 30-day grace period, effective from May 1st, 2025, has been granted for motorists to comply. Enforcement will begin after this period, and officers engaging in unprofessional conduct will face disciplinary action.
The Inspector-General of Police emphasizes the Force’s commitment to technologically driven and citizen-focused policing, urging the public to embrace the initiative for safer roads, enhanced public trust, and a more secure Nigeria.
