The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to developing and implementing sustainable economic and social policies to improve the welfare of all Nigerians.
An official signed statement, made available to journalists by Director, Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen disclosed that the secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, made this statement during a visit by the Nigeria Economic Society’s Governing Council, led by Professor Adeola Adenikinju, in Abuja.
Senator Akume praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, citing his wealth of experience in both private and public sectors as instrumental in guiding the nation’s economic trajectory to a growth rate that even some of the world’s most advanced economies are struggling to match.
The SGF commended the President’s decision to remove the fuel subsidy, describing it as a bold move with far-reaching positive consequences for the nation’s economic health. He noted that while such decisive actions may have immediate consequences, the ultimate goal and eventual outcome is the benefit it brings to the Nigerian people.
Professor Adenikinju commended President Tinubu’s administration for the courageous economic reforms undertaken over the past two years, noting that they have been comprehensive, spanning the fiscal, monetary, and real sectors of the economy.
He specifically lauded key initiatives such as the petroleum subsidy reforms, the unification of the multiple exchange rate system, fiscal policy and tax reforms, and adjustments to electricity tariffs as significant steps in the right direction. However, he urged the President to consider appointing dynamic and economic professionals to head sensitive economic parastatals for impressive results.
