The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has commissioned a state-of-the-art solar-powered borehole in the Fulatari Community of Monguno.

The facility, with a 10-cubic-meter tank capacity, was officially commissioned by the Force Commander, Major General Godwin Mutkut, and handed over to the local community.

Chief Military Information Officer, MNJTF Headquarters N’jamena, Chad, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba in an official signed statement disclosed that this profound move is part of the MNJTF’s commitment  towards enhancing community infrastructure and supporting sustainable development.

Lt. Col. Olaniyi further disclosed that during the commissioning ceremony, Major General Mutkut, Commander of the MNJTF underscored that access to clean water is vital for life and expressed confidence that the new facility would significantly improve the quality of life for the residents of Fulatari.

Maj. Gen. Mutkut further urged the community to manage the borehole responsibly, as its success could lead to further developmental projects in the area.

In his remarks, the Commander MNJTF Sector 3 Major General Mohammed Babayo, highlighted the project’s importance in the broader context of peace and stabilization efforts in Monguno and Borno State.

He further noted that the solar-powered borehole would facilitate the return and resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), thereby contributing to the region’s recovery and development.

The initiative aligns with the MNJTF’s commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment, reflecting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It aims to ensure universal access to clean water, improve public health, and enhance overall living conditions.

Mr Dennis Tavernier, representing Defence Council International (DCI), gave an in-depth analysis of the advanced features of the borehole, including solar panels for water treatment, micro filters, an automatic chrome dispenser, and a high-voltage pump, ensuring efficient and reliable water supply. He acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the MNJTF, DCI, and the European Union in supporting the return of communities affected by terrorism to their ancestral homes.

The Local Government Chairman of Monguno Alhaji Liman Kala expressed heartfelt gratitude to the MNJTF for their unwavering dedication to the community’s welfare. He recognized the borehole project as a testament to the MNJTF’s commitment to improving access to essential resources and enhancing the quality of life for the people of Monguno.

The commissioning ceremony, led by Major General Mutkut, was attended by key military commanders from Sector 3 Monguno, staff officers from MNJTF Headquarters, and representatives from Defence Council International.

The event marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to foster peace, stability, and development in the region and it is an initiative which aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, aiming to ensure universal access to clean water, improve public health, and enhance overall living conditions.
