Uzo-uwani Council Chairman Holds Stakeholders’ Engagement Meeting Over Security Challenges

The Executive chairman of Uzo-uwani Local Government Area, Hon.Barr.Chijioke Ezugwu, has convened a critical Stakeholders’ Meeting with Security agencies, traditional rulers, and Stakeholders from various Communities in the region.

The meeting, which was part of his efforts to deepen dialogue amongst Stakeholders focused on peculiar issues threatening peace and security in the local government and also to find Lasting solutions to the challenges. 

The meeting was held yesterday, Wednesday, April 9th, 2025 at the Council’s Headquarters, Umulokpa.

In his remarks, the Chairman welcomed the traditional rulers , Stakeholders and Heads of the Security agencies invited to the meeting and also expressed sadness over the recent attack to residents by suspected Fulani herdsmen, and warned that his administration would not condone any act of lawlessness.

Acknowledging the efforts of the Governor, Dr.Peter Mbah on security Matters, Ezugwu maintained that the Governor has provided 5 AI enabled security operational vehicles and has deployed 20 Police officers from the department of Distress Response Squad, Enugu.

He further stated that he has called for this strategic Security meeting to further deepen dialogue on finding lasting solutions to the recent security challenges.

He reaffirmed the commitment of his administration, in line with the vision of Governor Mbah on security, to leave no stone unturned and to ensure that Uzo-uwani remains a safe place where People’s farms, investment and other businesses are secured.

He further appealed to  Communities as well as traditional rulers, presidents-General and Stakeholders,to deepen collaboration in their various domains  so as to complement government’s efforts. He  pleaded stakeholders at different communities to give their support. He implored Communities to raise a  home grown security outfit that would work with other security agencies in place to protect our farms and its environs.

Speaking further, Barr Ezugwu promised to construct the road from Ukwu-Akpu Ukpata – Ogboda, linking to different farm settlement including the road to the border of kogi along Opanda axis. This is to enable the government have access to the surrounding forests/ bushes which would be helpful in constructing Farm Estate. The Chairman pleaded community Leaders to release lands for this purpose, noting that it will help to stem the tide of kidnapping.

The Chairman directed all Communities to open Security Clearance Form for Strangers in their community. This according to him,will help for proper identification of strangers.

He implored everyone to be law-abiding, reaffirming his Administration’s steadfast dedication to the welfare and safety of his people.

“Our administration remains resolutes in its mission to restore peace and security across all wards. Hitherto, insecurity has reduced drastically in the past 5 months of our administration. We are still on course, and we must ensure that we bring it to an end. We just need your support, collaboration partnership, and participation. All hands must be on deck to get it right.This is not time for politics. I urge everyone to unite together in fighting this. We are going to implement all the positive suggestions raised in this meeting and equally take immediate action towards implementing it.

Those who spoke during the meeting include the traditional rulers, presidents-General, ward Neighborhood watch Security officers and forest guards.
