Mrs. Salamatu Gbajabiamila, wife of the Chief of Staff to the President, has lauded the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA) for its efforts in promoting physical fitness among women in Nigeria.

Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the DEPOWA’s monthly fitness event which took place at the Mambila barracks Abuja, beginning with participants monitoring their vital signs, followed by an invigorating aerobics session, and then a refreshing health walk.

Mrs. Gbajabiamila emphasized the importance of women’s health and wellness, praising DEPOWA’s initiatives in championing this cause.

“I was initially reluctant to attend due to a long break from exercising, but I must confess, the event is truly inspiring and timely, and it goes to show that when women lead by example in embracing simple fitness routines, it positively influences not just their households, but the entire community.

“I will like to urge us all to remain dedicated to eating healthy and exercising regularly and I also promise to join you in your next health walk.” She said.

In her remarks, the President of DEPOWA, Mrs. Oghogho Musa, reaffirmed the association’s strong commitment to promoting healthy living through regular exercise and wellness education.

Mrs. Musa expressed her satisfaction with the significant improvements made by the organization, noting that the changes are evident and will continue to unfold. She aLeo acknowledged the commitment and dedication of members, stating, “This shows me that you take this seriously and you want to improve. From last year to now, we can see the changes and we know we are going to see more changes.”

She revealed that the association has lined up activities, including hiking, yoga and many more interesting sports activities, as part of its monthly fitness plan.

Mrs. Musa encouraged members to stay active and support one another by sharing their personal workout videos, a trend she said has already sparked interest and participation from others.

“We have we have decided that we are going to be sending our exercise videos to know whether you are keeping up with what you are doing.

“Also it is important to control of our food. For an overall healthy living, 80 percent is the food we consume, while 20 percent is on the exercise.

“Exercise helps to tone our body, therefore we are encouraging all of us when the message drops please, do not ignore, drop your videos, be ready to encourage your sister.

“Whatever exercise you are doing, kindly drop a video to encourage every one of us. Most people call me regarding the videos I post, i didn’t know that those videos encourage so many people.” She said.

Dr. Oluwayemisi Adegboye a health expert from the Defence Health Maintenance Limited, stressed the significance of regular physical activity in maintaining good health and preventing diseases.

Dr. Adegboye noted that exercise is the best gift one can give themselves, serving as a valuable investment in one’s health and well-being.

“Physical activity is essential for achieving balance in life, particularly in modern times where fast-paced lifestyles and unhealthy eating habits prevail.” She said.

She cautioned against relying solely on gym exercises, highlighting the importance of daily physical activity, such as walking, to maintain good health.

The expert encouraged attendees to make physical activity a part of their daily routine, aiming for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week. She also underscored the role of physical activity in maintaining mental health, social well-being, and overall quality of life.

“Take responsibility for your own health and well-being, and prioritize physical activity as a vital component of a healthy lifestyle.” She concluded.

Renowned Nollywood actress and movie producer Mercy Johnson Okojie emphasized the significance of consistent physical activity for women in her goodwill message at a recent event.

Expressing gratitude to DEPOWA President, Mrs. Musa, for inviting her, Mercy highlighted the paramount importance of health, noting that even with multiple responsibilities, a single health issue can take precedence over all others.
