Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on the Mandate Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES), Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, to facilitate the establishment of a Primary Healthcare Centre in Sauka Village under Abuja Municipal Area Council.

In a statement signed by Bola Ajao, Fasawe’s Special Adviser on Media on Wednesday, the First Lady said the initiative aims to strengthen healthcare services and combat tuberculosis in the region through the support of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Mrs. Tinubu, who also serves as the Global and National Stop TB Champion, was said to have made the call on Monday during the commemoration of World Tuberculosis Day 2025 in the Sauka community, where she reaffirmed her commitment towards addressing the scourge of TB in the nation.

The event was organised by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in collaboration with FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Stop TB Partnership Nigeria and the World Health Organisation, among others.

Speaking at the event, the First Lady disclosed the importance of grassroots interventions in the fight against TB. Stressing that she will continue to amplify the voices of TB survivors and fight against stigma and discrimination, ensuring that women, children, and marginalized groups have equal access to TB care.

She explained that this year’s theme, “Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver,” was locally translated to “We fit do am” to better connect with the community.

Quoting the First Lady, “To support the fight against this communicable disease, I will not only donate N1bn, but I also approve the request for the establishment of a Primary Healthcare Centre in Sauka Community.
