The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted the public to the presence of falsified Cikatem suspension, a medication used to treat malaria.

The falsified product, which contains Artemether 180mg/Lumefantrine 1080mg, was discovered in Kano’s Coordinated Wholesale Centre (CWC) following a consumer complaint.

NAFDAC’s investigation revealed that the product had a fake NAFDAC Registration Number (A11-100025) and was packaged in a way that was different from the genuine product.

NAFDAC has urged healthcare professionals and consumers to exercise caution and report any suspicious products to the agency.

The agency has also warned that the consumption of falsified medicines can have serious health consequences.

Key Details of the Falsified Product:
Product Name: Cikatem Suspension (Artemether 180mg/Lumefantrine 1080mg)
Batch No: ALS063
Manufacturing Date: 10/2024
Expiration Date: 09/2027
Manufacturer: Michelle Laboratories

What to Do:
If you suspect that you have purchased a falsified product, please report it to NAFDAC immediately. You can contact the agency by calling 0800-162-3322 or by emailing sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.
