Arising from the concerted efforts in place to enhance intelligence gathering and sharing, as well as advance the course of national security, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has pledged its unalloyed support to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) as the Corps continues in its quest to rid the nation of fake number plates. This partnership aims to promote road safety, enhance inter agency collaboration, and foster a culture of responsibility among Nigerian youths.

A statement signed by the corps public education officer, ACM Olusegun Ogungbemide disclosed that according to the President NYCN, Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, the proliferation of fake number plates poses a significant threat to national security and road safety, and as as young leaders, the Council recognises the importance of contributing to the safety and security of the nation, hence the urgency of the need for this partnership and support.

Amb. Sukubo pledged the readiness of NYCN to work with the FRSC to educate its members and the general public on the dangers of fake number plates as well as the importance of obtaining genuine number plates through authorised channels. He also declared the willingness of his Office to engage in joint enforcement with the Corps to get rid of the menace.

The Assistant Corps Marshal Operations, ACM Hyginus Uche Omeje who received the delegation at the national headquarters in Abuja on behalf of Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed stated that FRSC has been at the forefront of the campaign against fake number plates, and this partnership with the NYCN is expected to amplify the efforts the Corps already has in place.

He applauded the willingness of the Council to contribute to nation building through advocacy and sensitisation describing the gesture as highly patriotic.

Recall that the Corps had since the beginning of this year commenced an aggressive but highly effective enforcement against proliferation of fake number plates in Nigeria and about 400 vehicles have been arrested and impounded for contravention.
