The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has swiftly responded to a devastating explosion at a popular market in Talata Mafara, Zamfara State. The incident which occurred on Tuesday, resulted in the loss of three lives and injuring around 50 individuals. A subsequent fire destroyed numerous shops and market stalls, leaving many affected.

NEMA’s Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, activated the Sokoto Operations Office, which deployed a rescue team to respond to the situation. The team is working closely with the Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency and other relevant authorities to provide essential assistance to those affected.
Currently, 46 of the injured are receiving treatment at the Usman Dan Fodio University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto, with various departments, including orthopedics, surgery, ICU burn unit, and ENT, providing care. NEMA’s prompt response aims to mitigate the impact of the disaster and support those affected.
