In response to the devastating tanker fire disaster that occurred at Dikko Junction in Niger State, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has delivered essential relief items to affected families.

According to press statement made available to newsmen by the Agency’s spokesperson, the Director General Mrs. Zubaida Umar, NEMA distributed food, non-food items, and medical supplies to support the injured and families of the victims. This effort aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive and demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to aiding the community’s recovery.

According to the Director General, “Based on report of first rapid assessment  carried out by officials of NEMA, NSEMA and other first responders, we have come to provide immediate assistance of food and non-food items including medicaments to the affected families.”

While sympathizing with the  people, the Director General NEMA assured that the Agency would coordinate comprehensive efforts aimed at assisting in their recovery from the disaster.

She further stated that besides mourning over the tragic incident, it is also a reminder for every community to pay attention to the urgent need for disaster preparedness and to be proactive in safeguarding lives and property.

According to NEMA’s rapid assessment, 98 lives were lost, 69 people sustained injuries, and 20 shops were destroyed in the inferno.

Mrs. Umar commended the swift response of first responders, including rescue teams, firefighters, and medical personnel. She emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness and proactive measures to safeguard lives and property.

Deputy Speaker of Niger State House of Assembly Hon. Afiniki Daudu and local government officials were present at the relief distribution event, expressing gratitude to the Federal Government for it’s prompt response.

NEMA continues to coordinate comprehensive efforts to support the affected community’s recovery.
