…urges Nigerians to Uphold the Rule of Law and Respect Established Policies

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, welcomed the Commissioner for Insurance, Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, and his team to the Force Headquarters today, January 10, 2025. Omosehin was accompanied by several key officials, including: Deputy Commissioners Dr. Usman Jankara (Technical) and Mr. Ekerete Ola Gam-Ikon (Finance and Administration), Directors: Dr. Talmiz Usman (Legal, Enforcement, and Market Development) and Mr. Ajibola Bankole (Inspectorate), Special Assistant: Mr. Taiwo Babatola Adeoye and other members of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM).

The Commissioner commended the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) on his notable accomplishments, especially the launch of the Police Insurance Bank Limited. He stressed the importance of police cooperation in ensuring the public adheres to insurance laws. Furthermore, he requested the Nigeria Police Force assistance in enforcing compulsory third-party insurance nationwide, highlighting its numerous benefits for all road users.

The Inspector-General of Police in his remarks, emphasized the significance of third-party insurance, announcing that enforcement of the relevant laws will commence on February 1, 2025. Highlighting that according to Section 68 of the Insurance Act and Section 312 of the 1945 Motor Vehicle (Third Party Insurance) Act, all vehicle owners must possess third-party insurance to operate vehicles on public roads.

The IGP stressed that compliance is crucial, as failing to do so can result in severe penalties, including imprisonment, fines, or both. This move aims to ensure that vehicle owners take responsibility for their actions on the road and provide financial protection to third parties in case of accidents or damages.

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) remains committed to working closely with all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as well as private companies to prioritize the safety and security of all Nigerian citizens and their properties.
