AWWDI has made a groundbreaking move by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet). This historic partnership aims to tackle the climate and weather-related challenges faced by persons with disabilities (PWDs) across Nigeria.

Climate change involves gradual changes in weather patterns, driven by both human actions and natural factors. This leads to severe weather events like floods, heatwaves, and droughts. For Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), these changes create distinct difficulties, including: Limited access to crucial and timely information, restricted mobility during emergency situations, increased vulnerability to disasters.

A statement made available reads: “This pioneering partnership marks a significant milestone in reducing the climate vulnerability of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and ensuring their inclusion in climate action. Through its collaboration with NiMet, AWWDI will facilitate equal access to vital weather information for PWDs, providing it in inclusive formats such as: Braille, Audio and Sign language”.

The statement further emphasized on some Game-Changing Benefits of the AWWDI-NiMet Partnership which include: Accessible weather updates, Nimet to provide inclusive weather reports for PWDs, Building Climate Resilience for All: Adaptive Solutions for Persons with Disabilities, Strengthening PWD Communities by creating Climate Awareness, Training, and Capacity Development, Breaking Down Barriers: Advocating for Inclusive Disaster Management and Public Safety Practices.

“Through this collaboration, AWWDI, with the support of the Disability Rights Fund, reiterates its commitment to fostering inclusivity in key sectors, ultimately creating a more secure and resilient environment for PWDs across Nigeria”.

“AWWDI believes that inclusive climate action is crucial for achieving a more sustainable and equitable future. “Our groundbreaking partnership with NiMet demonstrates the incredible impact we can have when we work together towards a common goal”
