Brigadier General YD Ahmed, Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, has encouraged Corps Members to settle down in their host communities after the orientation exercise, learn and respect the local culture and traditions of their host communities. The DG made this call while addressing the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream One Corps Members at the Bayelsa State Orientation Camp in Boro town, Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.
He further urged them to contribute meaningfully to the development of their place of primary assignments and serve as good ambassadors of the Scheme.
“Don’t waste your time. Put extra values on yourself, settle down quickly, be focused and reflect on what you want to become in life because there is pride in service”, he said.
The NYSC Chief Executive advised the Corps Members to be security conscious and not undermine their personal security.
He added that his administration would continue to ensure maximum security and welfare for all Corps Members.
The DG also implored the Corps Members to access the benefits of National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) whenever the need arises.
He commended them for adjusting to the regimented life in camp, adding that it was designed to prepare them for leadership responsibilities as they aspire for greater heights in life.
In her brief to the Director General, the NYSC Bayelsa State Coordinator, Mrs Obiageli Okpalifo said all the 1,311 Corps Members comprising 580 males and 731 females have since adjusted to camp life, and are ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities ahead of them.
