Brigadier General YD Ahmed, Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, is calling for a joint effort to find Yahaya Farouk, a Corps Member who has gone missing in Rivers State.
Director General Ahmed, during his visit to Ikuru town in Rivers State, appealed to the youths and elders to collaborate with security agencies in the search for the missing Corps Member, Yahaya Farouk. He emphasized that the host community plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and welfare of Corps Members serving in their area and also reiterated that his administration would continue to appeal for adequate security and welfare of Corps Members at all times.
He also emphasized that residents of host communities have a vital role to play in ensuring the safety and well-being of Corps Members serving in their area, and stressed that it’s not just the responsibility of the NYSC, but also that of the host communities to provide adequate security and welfare packages for the Corps Members.
“The essence of my coming is to appeal to assist us in getting the Corps Member who came for National Service from another State”, he said.
The DG also visited the scene of the unfortunate incident.
In their separate responses to the Director General’s request, the Youth President, Mr Etete Jerb Anthony and the Ward Secretary, Mr Paul Friday said the community has tried immensely to find Corps Member Yahaya who got missing while at a Chinese Mining Company within the community.
They however promised that search and rescue efforts are still ongoing.
