Mr. Callistus Egbo, the father of the three kids that died recenty in Enugu over alleged food poisoning, has said that it was not food poison that killed his two kids and his wife’s relation.

The story had gone viral that the death of the kids was as a result of eating beans.

Egbo who is the proprietor and Chief executive officer, CEO of Elohim Nursery, Primary and Secondary School, Agu-Uwani, Akwuke, Enugu South local government area of Enugu state, told Blueprint that contrary to the widely held belief that the tragedy that befell his family was as a result of food poison following their consumption of beans from the North, said that it was not so.

Egbo and one of his sons who were also affected, were admitted to the hospital and have been discharged since.

According to the school proprietor, no one knows the cause of the incident that led to his hospitalisation and the death of his two children and his wife’s relation.

The school proprietor said that on the fateful day, September 9, they were taken ill and that while others died in the hospital, he survived.

He said that the two hospitals they were taken to, there were series of tests conducted but the cause of the incident could not be ascertained, thereby giving the impression that it could be evil projection or invocation by the enemies of his family.

“It is not true that what happened was food poison. Different newsmen have come here to interview me and after talking with me they went about publishing what they liked. Some had it that we eat beans and fell sick whereas we have not taken beans for more than three weeks before the incident.

“We don’t normally eat beans because my children did not like beans. Any time we cooked beans they used to tell me and my wife that we are on our own, so I don’t know how they came about that it was food poison that killed my children?” he lamented.

He however said all the tests they had at Mothers of Christ and UNTH, Enugu hospitals came out negative, adding that he has been going for checks in hospitals and that results never showed that it was food poison.

He said that anybody who was desirous to know happened should go to either Mother of Christ or UNTH, Enugu for enquiry and clarification.

“You people should go to the hospitals to know the cause of the incident. It was the hospitals that said that it was not food poison. So, anybody who wants to know more should go to the hospitals and not come here. I am tired of talking to the press. Allow me to mourn my loss,” he said.

However drama ensued later when Egbo’s wife came in began to rake that they have had enough and thst they wouldn’t want any more press interviews and wondered of what use the interviews and publicities were for.

“Police, DSS, even the governor is aware of what happened. This happened during the holiday and the media is linking the incident to the school. Enough. We don’t need further publicity. In short tear all that you wrote on your notebook.

“Before now I used to listen to radio, read the newspapers, and follow news on the social media but I never knew that most of the stories are false. How can they write that it was beans that killed my children and my relation? she fumed.

All entreaties by her husband and onlookers that she should let the journalist be fell on dear ears as she insisted that the incident would not be reported again. “Go and write whatever you like but we are not going to talk to you and you are not going to quote any of us,” she concluded.
