The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has been recognized as a top-performing government agency in the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council’s (PEBEC) 2024 Half-Year Transparency and Efficiency Compliance Report, covering the period from January to June 2024, for its outstanding adherence to procedural best practices and commitment to delivering efficient public services.

A statement signed by the Director Public Relations, SON, Mrs. Foluso Bolaji noted that the standards agency came second with 78.2%, among twenty (20) Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

She said according to the compliance report, “despite bureaucratic challenges and issues with consequence management persisting, for the January 2024 to June 2024 half-year reporting period, the top three performers are the Nigerian Content Development Management Board (NCDMB) at 80.1%, Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) at 78.2%, and the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) at 74.8%”.

The report added that MDAs have made progress in adhering to service level agreements (SLA) and advancing digitization efforts.

Mrs. Bolaji said the report indicated that the outlook for efficient public service delivery remains positive, given the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s led administration’s commitment to creating a conducive business environment.

The report said “there has been significant improvement in the overall rankings, with over 60% of MDAs now scoring above average, compared to the previous report where only 30% achieved above-average scores.

The Efficiency Compliance Ranking evaluates the efforts of Ministries, Departments, or Agencies (MDAs) in providing services in a timely, cost-efficient, and customer-oriented manner. This metric evaluates MDAs based on their adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs), cost management, procedural efficiency, One Government directive, and instances of Default Approval as provided in the Business Facilitation Act 2022. MDAs demonstrating outstanding performance consistently achieve high efficiency report scores, adhere strictly to service guidelines, and meet or exceed customer expectations.

She noted that the Director General and Chief Executive, SON, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke in aligning the Organization’s mandate with the Presidents Renewed Hope Agenda for an industrialized Nation remains committed to ensuring that SONcontinues to render its services efficiently for the overall good of the Country.

The Director stressed that with the dedication and committed Staff who work tirelessly in pursuant to its goal of ridding the Nation of substandard products, SON it is no wonder that the performance of the Organisation has remained on the top three in years.
