…As APC asks him to resign membership of the Party
The Senate, on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 announced the sack of Senator Ali Mohammed Ndume (Borno South) as Chief Whip of the Upper chamber of the National Assembly.
Recall that it was reported that the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio was under intense pressure from some powerful forces within the presidency to get Senator Ndume out of his position in the Senate for daring to criticise President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who he said has been caged by some of his aides and prevented from having access to people.
Wednesday’s sack of Ndume therefore followed his recent criticisms of President Tinubu’s government and those he called the new cabal he alleged were more dangerous than those of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
When the motion for the removal of Senator Ndume was put to voice vote at plenary by the Senate President, members of the APC Caucus in the Senate voted in favour of Ndume’s sack as Chief Whip of the Senate.
Senator Ndume was immediately replaced by Senator Tahir Mungono (Borno North).
In a letter addressed to the Senate Caucus by the national leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the Party asked Senator Ndume to resign his membership of the APC and join any of the opposition parties he so desired.
The letter by the APC was signed by Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and Barrister Ajibola Bashiru, National Chairman and National Secretary respectively.
