The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered the immediate deployment of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Shehu Umar Nadada, to Kaduna State following a deadly bandit attack on Ariko Village near the Gurara Dam.

The attack, which occurred on April 5, 2026, targeted worshippers at both Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) and a Catholic Church in the community, where armed bandits reportedly opened fire indiscriminately.

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, DCP Anthony Placid, the assault left five people dead while about fourteen others were abducted by the attackers.

In response to the incident, the Inspector-General of Police directed an immediate operational intervention and ordered the deployment of the DIG Operations to assess the situation on ground and coordinate security efforts aimed at restoring order and rescuing the abducted victims.

During the rescue operation, the team led by DIG Nadada, working in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services (DSS), successfully rescued seven of the kidnapped victims.

The rescued victims were immediately taken to Katari Hospital where they received medical attention and were confirmed to be in stable condition. Authorities said they are currently awaiting reunion with their families.

Police authorities confirmed that operations are still ongoing to secure the release of the remaining captives and track down those responsible for the attack.

The IGP also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies with credible information that could aid ongoing operations.

He reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting lives and property and ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes are brought to justice.
