The Nigeria Police Force in Nasarawa State has rescued a three-day-old baby who was abducted in Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area, and arrested two suspects linked to the crime.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa State Command, SP Ramhan Nansel.
According to the statement, the incident was reported on March 29, 2026, at about 5:45 a.m. by a 19-year-old resident of Unguwan Bako, Orange Market, Mararaba, Aisha Bada, who informed the police that unknown persons had abducted her newborn baby boy.
The young mother explained that her husband, Abubakar Isah, a commercial tricycle rider, had travelled to Lagos for business about five months earlier. She further narrated that on March 28, 2026, at about 11:50 a.m., while she was asleep with her three-day-old baby inside her uncompleted building located at the outskirts of Unguwan Bawa, Orange Market, two unidentified men broke into the house, threatened her with violence and whisked the baby away to an unknown destination.
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, immediately directed detectives attached to the Mararaba ‘A’ Division to visit the scene and launch a full-scale investigation into the incident.
Police operatives, acting on credible intelligence, later tracked down and arrested two suspects in connection with the crime. The suspects, identified as 35-year-old Furera Abdulrahman of Rugan Juli and 39-year-old Sadiya Abdullahi of Unguwan Bako, Orange Market, were apprehended on April 3, 2026, at about 4:00 a.m.
The abducted baby boy was found in their possession and successfully rescued by the operatives.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to the crime and revealed that they had collaborated with another accomplice who is currently at large. Police authorities said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
The rescued baby was immediately taken to the Medical Centre in Mararaba where he was examined by a doctor, certified to be in good health and subsequently discharged. The child has since been reunited with his parents.
Police authorities said the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for further discreet investigation after the completion of preliminary inquiries.
The Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Police Force reassured residents of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
