The Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, has approved the immediate deployment of additional troops to Plateau State in a bid to contain rising security tensions and reinforce ongoing operations aimed at restoring peace in the state.

The reinforcement, according to a statement issued by Captain Chinonso Oteh, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force under Operation ENDURING PEACE, is intended to strengthen the capacity of troops already deployed to manage the situation and ensure stability across affected communities.

The newly deployed troops, numbering more than 850, were drawn from military formations in Abuja and Kaduna and have been tasked with supporting ongoing operations to de-escalate tensions and safeguard lives and property in the state.

During a visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force in Jos, the army chief charged the troops to remain professional, disciplined and resolute in the discharge of their duties.

“You must remain professional, disciplined and firm in dealing with criminal elements threatening the peace and security of law-abiding citizens,” the COAS told the troops.

He assured them that the Nigerian Army had provided adequate logistics and combat enablers to support the mission and ensure the effective execution of their tasks.

The deployment is expected to bolster the operational strength of forces already engaged in stabilisation efforts under Operation ENDURING PEACE, as the military intensifies efforts to restore law and order in the troubled areas.

Military authorities said the troops have been specifically tasked with protecting lives and property, maintaining security in affected communities, and creating a safe environment for residents across Plateau State.
