The Honourable Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (Rtd.) has challenged graduates of the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) to embrace innovation and technological advancement as critical tools for strengthening Nigeria’s defence and security architecture.
The minister gave the charge during the institute’s combined 2nd, 3rd and 4th convocation ceremony for the award of degrees, diplomas and presentation of special prizes held in Kaduna.
Represented at the ceremony by the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Defence, Mr. Richard Pheelangwah, the minister underscored the pivotal role of education and technological innovation in shaping the future of the nation’s defence and security sectors.
He congratulated the graduating students for their dedication and academic achievements, urging them to uphold the core values of discipline, professionalism and commitment as they transition into their respective careers.
According to him, the knowledge and technical expertise acquired by the graduates would play a crucial role in advancing Nigeria’s security capabilities and technological development.
“The future of our nation’s technological advancement lies in your hands. Your knowledge and skills are vital to the security and progress of our country,” he said.
The minister further noted that AFIT has continued to distinguish itself as a centre of excellence in research, training and capacity development, producing highly skilled personnel capable of contributing meaningfully to the nation’s defence industry and technological growth.
Earlier in his remarks, the Commandant of the institute, Adeniran Ademuwagun, congratulated the graduating students and encouraged them to remain committed to integrity, professionalism and national service as they embark on a new phase of their careers.
The convocation ceremony featured the conferment of degrees and diplomas on graduating students as well as the presentation of special awards to outstanding graduates for their academic excellence.
