The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has extended warm felicitations to Muslim faithful across Nigeria on the successful completion of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, while ordering a nationwide deployment of tactical assets to ensure a secure festive period.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, the police boss directed Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders in all states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory to implement robust security arrangements.
According to the statement, the directive forms part of the IGP’s commitment to guaranteeing a safe and peaceful environment during the celebrations.
The measures include the strategic deployment of tactical teams and intelligence operatives, as well as the mobilisation of the Special Intervention Squad alongside conventional police personnel to Eid prayer grounds and other critical infrastructure.
The police also announced increased presence at highways, motor parks, recreational centres and other public spaces to ensure hitch-free celebrations across the country.
The IGP further ordered heightened visibility policing, coordinated patrols, enhanced surveillance operations and intelligence-led stop-and-search duties aimed at proactively deterring criminal activities and ensuring swift response to any emerging threats.
Disu called on members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies, urging citizens to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency lines.
While wishing Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Fitr celebration, the IGP reassured Nigerians of the Nigeria Police Force’s readiness to safeguard lives and property throughout the festive period.
