The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Grace Ike, has extended warm felicitations to Muslim faithful in the Federal Capital Territory on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, urging them to sustain the values of unity, compassion and tolerance beyond the holy month of Ramadan.
In a press statement issued in Abuja, Ike described Ramadan as a period of deep spiritual reflection, self-discipline, sacrifice and renewed devotion to the service of humanity, noting that the commitment demonstrated by Muslim faithful throughout the fasting period remains commendable and inspiring.
“I warmly felicitate with all Muslim faithful in the FCT on the joyous occasion of Eid-el-Fitr, marking the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan,” she said, adding that the virtues fostered during the period promote peaceful coexistence and social harmony.
The NUJ FCT chairman specifically called on Muslim journalists and Nigerians at large to uphold the virtues of patience, tolerance, compassion and generosity imbibed during Ramadan, stressing that such values are critical to strengthening unity within communities and advancing national development.
“As we celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, I urge our Muslim brothers and sisters in the profession to sustain these virtues. They are essential in building a more cohesive and progressive society,” she stated.
Ike further noted that the Eid celebration presents an opportunity for Nigerians, irrespective of religious or ethnic differences, to embrace unity and mutual respect, emphasising that the country’s diversity remains one of its greatest strengths.
She also urged citizens to extend acts of kindness to the less privileged, describing the festive period as not only a time of celebration but also a season of sharing and empathy.
“Let us reach out to those in need and reaffirm our shared humanity,” she said.
The NUJ chairman equally charged leaders at all levels to reflect on the lessons of sacrifice and service embodied in Ramadan, and to prioritise policies that promote inclusiveness, accountability and the overall well-being of Nigerians.
While wishing Muslims a peaceful and fulfilling Eid-el-Fitr celebration, Ike also advised residents to celebrate responsibly and in line with public safety guidelines.
She expressed hope that the blessings of the season would bring renewed hope, unity and prosperity to the nation.
