The Honourable Minister of Works, David Umahi, has inaugurated the Accommodation and Transportation Committee for the 2026 National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as preparations intensify for the ruling party’s major political gathering.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Tuesday in Abuja, brought together key party stakeholders tasked with coordinating logistics for the convention, particularly the movement and lodging of party leaders, delegates and special guests expected from across the country.
According to a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of Works on Media, Francis Nwaze, the committee will play a strategic role in ensuring a seamless and well-organised convention.
Senator Umahi chairs the transportation component of the committee, while the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, heads the accommodation arm. Both structures are expected to work closely as sister committees to ensure efficient coordination of logistics throughout the convention.
The committee’s responsibilities include transportation logistics and movement planning, accommodation arrangements, hotel engagement and room allocation, as well as operational monitoring and support during the event.
Addressing members during the inauguration, the minister stressed that transportation and accommodation are critical components that determine the success of a major political event such as the APC National Convention.
“Our leaders and special guests must be properly accommodated. Transportation between hotels, airports and the convention venue must be well coordinated. When these logistics work smoothly, the convention proceeds seamlessly. When they fail, even the most carefully planned event can be disrupted,” Umahi said.
He therefore urged members of the committee to ensure that all arrangements relating to accommodation and transportation are professionally planned, well coordinated and efficiently executed.
The minister expressed strong confidence in the competence, dedication and experience of members of the committee, noting that their collective expertise would help deliver a successful national convention for the ruling party.
“I am confident that with the experience, commitment and leadership represented in this committee, we will work together to ensure that the APC 2026 National Convention is conducted in an organised, efficient and successful manner,” he added.
Formally inaugurating the committee, Umahi declared that the transportation and accommodation committee would immediately commence work pending the official separation of both structures.
