The Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Olatunji Disu, has reassured Nigerians of the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to safeguarding lives, property, and national peace amid evolving geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and their potential global ripple effects.

The assurance comes against the backdrop of heightened international developments that have sparked concerns in several parts of the world. However, police authorities insist that Nigeria remains stable and that its internal security architecture is firmly under control.

In an official signed statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Ag. ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Acting Inspector-General directed all Commissioners of Police across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to immediately strengthen intelligence gathering and proactive policing strategies nationwide.

Particular attention, the statement noted, is to be given to the North West, North East, and North Central zones. Commissioners have been mandated to heighten surveillance operations, deepen collaboration with traditional and religious leaders, and enhance visibility policing around worship centres, public spaces, and other critical locations.

The directive also emphasises the need for swift intervention against any individual or group seeking to exploit global developments to incite unrest, provoke sectarian tension, or disrupt public order within Nigeria.

The Police leadership was unequivocal in its position that Nigeria will not serve as a theatre for foreign conflicts. Authorities warned that any attempt to import external ideological or religious disputes into the country would attract the full weight of the law.

IGP Disu called on community leaders across the nation to sustain efforts at promoting peace and unity, urging citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding. He encouraged members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its readiness to respond decisively to any emerging threat, stressing that it remains resolute and fully prepared to maintain national security and protect every Nigerian at all times.
