The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of a female officer who lost her life following an accident during a simulation exercise at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja.

The deceased officer, identified as Assistant Superintendent of Corps Ogbodo Ene Victoria, was a member of the Female Strike Force and was participating in a “Tactical Rescue Operation” simulation of kidnapped school children held in commemoration of the 2026 World Civil Defence Day.

In an official signed statement issued by the National Public Relations Officer of the Corps, ACC Babawale Zaid Afolabi, the unfortunate incident was said to have occurred during the exercise at the National Headquarters.

Following the accident, the officer was immediately rushed to the Intensive Care Unit of the Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, Abuja, where medical personnel made concerted efforts to save her life. Despite urgent medical attention, she later passed away.

The Commandant General described the incident as shocking and deeply painful, extending his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased, as well as officers and men of the Corps nationwide.

He prayed for the repose of her soul and directed that a high-powered delegation from the National Headquarters visit her family to formally convey the Corps’ condolences.

Prof. Audi assured that the Service would ensure she is accorded befitting burial rites and that her post-service benefits are duly processed and paid in line with extant regulations.

While urging officers and men of the Corps not to be discouraged by the tragic development, the CG appealed to them to remain steadfast in their duties and continue to pray for the Service. He described the incident as an act of God but acknowledged that it underscored the need for stricter adherence to safety standards.

According to him, the accident might have been avoided if adequate safety precautions and proper coordination had been in place during the simulation. He therefore advised personnel to strictly observe all established safety protocols, especially given the demanding and sensitive nature of the Corps’ operational mandates.

The tragic loss has cast a solemn mood over the Service, even as preparations for the World Civil Defence Day activities continue, with the Corps reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, safety, and the welfare of its personnel.
