The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) have formalised a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening professional training, capacity development, and service delivery in Nigeria’s aviation and meteorological sectors.

The partnership was sealed with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at NiMet headquarters in Abuja by the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Charles Anosike, and the Rector of NCAT, Danjuma Ismaila.

The agreement reflects a shared commitment by both institutions to deepen collaboration in critical areas of aviation meteorology and operational training, with a focus on improving technical expertise, institutional capacity, and the overall quality of aviation support services.

Under the terms of the MoU, both organisations will collaborate in the use of training facilities, provide advisory support for aviation-related training programmes, and jointly deliver specialised long- and short-term professional courses for NiMet personnel. The partnership also provides for staff exchange programmes and joint training initiatives designed to promote knowledge sharing and strengthen technical competence.

The framework further enables the use of NiMet’s Training School in Oshodi, Lagos, for aviation training programmes compliant with standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), positioning both institutions to contribute more effectively to global aviation safety and operational standards.

Key areas of focus under the collaboration include aviation operations and management, safety management systems, crisis management, aviation security, air navigation systems, airport operations, and jointly organised academic programmes such as Diploma training in Aviation Meteorology.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Anosike reaffirmed NiMet’s commitment to continuous human capital development, stressing that sustained investment in training, technical collaboration, and institutional partnerships remains essential to advancing operational excellence and ensuring safe and efficient air navigation across Nigeria.

The agreement is expected to enhance the professional capacity of aviation meteorologists and other aviation personnel, while strengthening institutional cooperation between two of Nigeria’s foremost aviation and meteorological training bodies.
