The Federal Road Safety Corps and the National Identity Management Commission have taken significant steps to deepen institutional collaboration aimed at strengthening national security, enhancing road safety, and building a harmonised national identity system through robust data integration.

This renewed commitment followed a high-level strategic engagement between the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, and the Director General of the National Identity Management Commission, Adesoye Coker.

According to an official statement signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Corps Marshal emphasised the critical importance of harmonising data across government institutions to support national security architecture and create an intelligent identity management system capable of accurately verifying individuals.

He noted that credible identity management remains fundamental to effective law enforcement, implementation of crash reduction strategies, and efficient national planning, stressing that reliable data integration will significantly enhance public safety and accountability.

The Corps Marshal commended the National Identity Management Commission for its remarkable progress in expanding Nigeria’s identity database and strengthening the National Identification Number ecosystem, describing the initiative as central to national development and security.

He reiterated the Corps’ resolve to fully integrate the National Identification Number into its operations, including making it a mandatory requirement for vehicle registration and the issuance of the National Driver’s Licence. He explained that the move would help sanitise the road transport sector, improve traceability of motorists, and strengthen enforcement capabilities.

Mohammed also sought the inclusion of the Corps in the Commission’s Annual Identity Forum, noting that the FRSC plays a crucial frontline role in identity management through its statutory responsibilities in driver licensing and vehicle registration.

He expressed confidence that closer institutional collaboration would accelerate innovation, improve data accuracy, and enhance operational efficiency across both agencies.

In her remarks, the Director General of the National Identity Management Commission, Engr. Adesoye Coker, pledged the Commission’s full support for the partnership and reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the FRSC on data integration initiatives that support national security and road safety objectives.

She commended the Corps Marshal for the ongoing transformation and modernisation within the Federal Road Safety Corps, expressing optimism that sustained collaboration between the two institutions would deliver far-reaching benefits for the country.

The engagement marks another major milestone in the Federal Government’s drive to build a technology-driven, harmonised national identity system designed to strengthen governance, improve accountability, enhance law enforcement capabilities, and safeguard lives on Nigerian roads.
