The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre has reinforced strategic collaboration with the country’s banking sector in a bid to combat cybercrime and financial fraud. The Centre recently hosted a high-level delegation from the Body of Bank Chief Executive Officers in Nigeria at its headquarters in Abuja.
In an official statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, Ag. ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the engagement was aimed at deepening intelligence sharing, enhancing cybersecurity strategies, and strengthening joint efforts against financial crimes.
Welcoming the delegation, the Director of the Centre, CP Ifeanyi Uche Henry, PhD, reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre’s commitment to combating cybercrime through intelligence-driven policing, digital forensics, and strategic partnerships both domestically and internationally.
CP Uche highlighted the core mandates of the Centre, which include investigating and supporting the prosecution of cybercrime cases, conducting digital forensic examinations, monitoring social media, gathering cyber intelligence, assessing threats, and protecting Nigeria’s critical information infrastructure.
He emphasized that close cooperation with financial institutions is essential, noting that cybercriminals often exploit banking systems to facilitate illegal activities.
Speaking on behalf of the banking sector, Mr. Nixon Iwedi, ACIB, Chairman of the Body of Bank Chief Executive Officers in Nigeria and Managing Director/CEO of Signature Bank, said the visit followed earlier engagements with the Inspector-General of Police in Lagos and is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration between the police and the banking industry in tackling cybercrime.
He commended the Nigeria Police Force and the NPF-NCCC for their professionalism, resilience, and continued commitment to combating cybercrime both within Nigeria and across international borders.
The meeting underscores the growing synergy between law enforcement and financial institutions in addressing cyber threats and protecting Nigeria’s digital and financial ecosystem.
