The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos, has a new leadership as Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Olatunji Disu officially assumed duty as the 55th AIG in charge, effective February 9, 2026. His appointment follows the redeployment of AIG Margaret Ochalla, who is currently undertaking an advanced training program in the United States.

A native of Lagos State, AIG Disu brings over three decades of policing experience and a wealth of leadership expertise to his new role. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Education, alongside Master’s degrees in Public Administration and Criminology, reflecting a blend of academic rigor and practical policing knowledge that has defined his career trajectory.

Before his latest appointment, Disu has held several strategic positions in the Nigerian Police Force, including serving as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos State, and Commissioner of Police in both Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). His tenure in these roles is widely recognized for improving operational efficiency, strengthening crime response mechanisms, and fostering community-police engagement.

At a brief ceremony marking the handover of responsibilities, AIG Disu expressed deep commitment to reinforcing FCID Annex’s operational capacity and tackling criminal activities with renewed vigor. “My mandate as the head of this crucial department is clear: to ensure zero tolerance to corruption, strengthen investigative processes, and deliver justice efficiently,” he said. “I call on all stakeholders, our partners in law enforcement, and the general public to support this mandate. Together, we can build a safer and more just society.”

AIG Disu emphasized that the fight against organized crime, financial fraud, and other high-profile offenses requires collaboration across government agencies, civil society, and communities. “Policing today is not just about enforcement; it is about intelligence-led investigations, professionalism, and accountability. The FCID Annex will continue to be a model of operational excellence in these regards,” he added.

Colleagues and senior police officers who attended the ceremony lauded the new AIG’s track record, noting his reputation for integrity, strategic foresight, and innovative approaches to policing. Analysts say his leadership at the FCID Annex comes at a critical time when Nigeria faces evolving criminal threats that demand swift, coordinated, and technologically supported investigative responses.

In taking over the helm from AIG Ochalla, Disu inherits a department with a history of high-profile investigations, including complex criminal cases that span fraud, cybercrime, and organized criminal networks. His predecessor, now undergoing specialized training abroad, is expected to bring additional insights to the Force upon her return.

With his extensive operational experience, academic background, and leadership acumen, AIG Disu’s appointment signals a renewed emphasis on accountability, professional discipline, and proactive crime-fighting at one of the Force’s most strategic investigative units. Observers are optimistic that his tenure will enhance public trust in law enforcement and further position the FCID Annex as a center of excellence for criminal investigations in Nigeria.
