President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to building sustainable and climate-resilient roads as a catalyst for Nigeria’s socio-economic growth. In an official signed statement, the Assistant Chief Information Officer OSGF, Dewan Nengak Goshit disclosed that President Tinubu, represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, CON, at the Road Summit 2026, emphasized that quality, durable, and climate-friendly roads are central to his Renewed Hope Agenda.
The President highlighted notable projects, including the 780km Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, poised to unlock the blue economy, enhance coastal connectivity, and catalyse tourism, trade, and industrial development. Another flagship project is the 1,068km Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, designed to unlock new economic frontiers and foster national integration.
The SGF, Sen. George Akume, underscored the administration’s unprecedented investments in road infrastructure, characterised by engineering excellence, long-term value, and climate resilience. The administration is expediting legacy road projects, prioritising vital economic corridors, and shifting from fragmented annual interventions to strategic, long-term infrastructure planning.
Minister of Works, Sen. David Nweze Umahi, represented by Minister of State for Works, Barr. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, stated that the administration is committed to adopting modern construction standards, innovative technologies, and transitioning to technology-driven, climate-responsive, and data-based maintenance systems, building climate resilience and local capacity through durable materials and empowerment of indigenous contractors.
FERMA Managing Director, Dr. Chukwuemeka Agbasi, emphasized that sustainable road infrastructure entails not only building new roads but also managing existing ones, requiring a shift from reactive to proactive, long-term approaches. The Road Summit 2026, organised by FERMA, aimed to shape the future of Nigerian road infrastructure through expert, stakeholder, and public-private partnerships, addressing road maintenance and development needs.
