The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has cautioned Corps Members against abandoning the national service for any reason, urging them to remain steadfast and contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the country.
General Nafiu gave the charge while addressing the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream One Corps Members at the Orientation Camps in Ogun and Oyo States.
In an official statement signed by the Director, Information and Public Relations, NYSC, Caroline Embu, the Director-General commended the Corps Members for answering the clarion call to serve the nation, describing their participation in the Scheme as a demonstration of patriotism and national loyalty.
He advised the young graduates to embrace discipline, remain focused throughout the service year, and avoid any form of conduct capable of undermining the objectives of the Scheme.
The NYSC boss also emphasised the importance of prudent financial management, noting that responsible handling of personal resources would be beneficial to Corps Members during and after their service year.
General Nafiu further urged them to respect and appreciate the cultures and traditions of their host communities, stressing that peaceful coexistence and good conduct are essential for a successful service experience.
“When you are posted to your place of primary assignment, respect their rules, be punctual, be resourceful and learn the culture of the organisation you are posted to,” he said.
Earlier, the NYSC Ogun State Coordinator, Mrs. Olayinka Nasamu, informed the Director-General that a total of 3,341 Corps Members, including 975 originally deployed to Lagos State, were registered at the camp. She added that the Corps Members had conducted themselves responsibly since arrival and had adapted well to the regimented camp life.
“All camp officials are also performing their duties diligently with a high sense of synergy,” she noted.
In Oyo State, the NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Kayode Ola-Peters, disclosed that the 3,068 registered Corps Members had displayed commendable character, participated actively in camp activities, and shown strong willingness to contribute to national development across all sectors.
