The Nigeria Police Force has honoured Retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Cecilia Adebisi Ugowe, as she celebrates her 90th birthday, recognising a life marked by exceptional service, courage, and pioneering contributions to policing in Nigeria.

In an official statement, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, highlighted that Retired DIG Ugowe occupies a distinguished place in the history of the Nigeria Police Force. Rising through the ranks at a time when leadership opportunities for women were limited, she broke multiple barriers, becoming the first female Commissioner of Police, the first female Assistant Inspector-General of Police, the first woman to serve as Force Secretary, and ultimately the first female Deputy Inspector-General of Police.

Her career, CSP Hundeyin noted, was defined by merit, discipline, and commitment, setting a benchmark for professional excellence and integrity. Beyond her historic appointments, her legacy lies in opening pathways for future generations of women in policing, broadening participation, strengthening institutional professionalism, and demonstrating that leadership is determined by competence and dedication rather than convention.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, joined the Force in congratulating Retired DIG Ugowe, wishing her continued good health, peace, and happiness. The Force hailed her enduring influence, noting that her contributions continue to inspire officers, particularly women, to pursue excellence and leadership in service to the nation.
