The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has announced the appointment of Mr. John Okor Odey, a Deputy Director, as the new Spokesperson of the Commission, marking a strategic move to reinforce its public communication and strengthen engagement with citizens and the media.
The appointment, contained in an official statement issued by Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu, revealed that Mr. Odey takes over from Mr. Demola Bakare, fsi, and will also assume leadership of the Commission’s newly created Media and Public Communications Unit under the Office of the Hon. Chairman. The unit is envisioned to play a central role in amplifying the Commission’s anti-corruption efforts and expanding its outreach across traditional and digital platforms.
According to the statement, the Commission is confident that Mr. Odey’s vast professional background in communication, public enlightenment, and strategic messaging will enhance ICPC’s visibility and deepen public understanding of its mandate. His appointment is expected to further strengthen the institution’s resolve to promote transparency and accountability nationwide.
Mr. Odey brings a rich blend of editorial, broadcast, and communication experience to his new role. He began his career as an editor before transitioning into broadcasting, where he served as a scriptwriter and presenter. Since joining the ICPC, he has held key roles across Public Enlightenment, Protocol, and Zonal Operations, contributing significantly to advocacy initiatives and public interface programmes.
He holds a degree in English/Literature, a Master’s Degree in Leadership Studies, and an MPhil in Leadership and Strategic Studies, along with a Professional Diploma in Public Relations. He is also a certified member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), further underscoring his professional grounding in communication and reputation management.
The ICPC expressed optimism that his appointment will enhance the Commission’s institutional communication framework and support its ongoing nationwide efforts to combat corruption and uphold integrity in public service.
