The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to evolving innovative strategies aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and impact of its Orientation Courses, the foundational phase of Nigeria’s national service program.
Speaking at the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Pre-Orientation Course Workshop in Abuja, Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, outlined the agency’s vision to modernize the Orientation framework, ensuring it remains relevant, dynamic, and responsive to the needs of Corps Members. The workshop, themed “Strengthening the Orientation Course Framework for Greater Relevance and Impact on National Service,” brought together NYSC top management, State Coordinators, Camp Directors-designate, Camp Commandants-designate, and representatives of partner agencies.
In an official statement, Caroline Embu, Director of Information and Public Relations at NYSC, reported that Brigadier General Nafiu emphasized the Orientation Course as a critical phase that shapes Corps Members’ first impressions of the Scheme and the states of deployment, while laying the foundation for a successful service year.
“This workshop theme reflects our desire to reposition the Orientation Course as a more dynamic, responsive, and impactful phase of the National Service. To achieve this, we must be willing to critically review our ways of doing things, fine-tune our approaches, and evolve new ones,” Nafiu said.
The Director-General encouraged participants to share their experiences and challenges, particularly in areas such as the reception of Corps Members, registration processes, the closing ceremony, and posting for Primary Assignment. He underscored that lessons learned from previous Orientation exercises would inform the development of improved strategies for subsequent programs.
Nafiu also commended the partner agencies and stakeholders who collaborate in the planning and execution of the Orientation Course, urging them to sustain their commitment to the success of the Scheme.
Earlier in the proceedings, Mr. Nura Umar, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics at NYSC, encouraged participants to contribute actively to the workshop, emphasizing the need for professionalism, innovation, and excellence in all aspects of the Orientation Course. He highlighted that such collaborative efforts would ensure a more impactful and memorable experience for all Corps Members participating in the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Orientation.
The Pre-Orientation Course Workshop serves as a critical platform for NYSC to assess past experiences, adopt best practices, and introduce fresh approaches, reflecting the agency’s ongoing dedication to continuous improvement and capacity building in Nigeria’s youth development and national service programs.
