The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Nkechi Eze, BDS, MPH, fspsp, as the Pioneer Director of the newly established Directorate of Force Medical Services, marking a historic milestone in the Nigeria Police Force’s healthcare reform agenda.

In an official statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the appointment follows the recent elevation of the Force Medical Section to a full-fledged Directorate, an initiative designed to institutionalize comprehensive, accessible, and efficient healthcare services across all commands and formations of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to the statement, the creation of the Directorate and the appointment of its pioneer director underscore the IGP’s deep commitment to ongoing police reforms, personnel welfare, and organizational modernization. The Inspector-General emphasized that the health and well-being of officers and men remain pivotal to the Force’s operational efficiency and overall productivity.

AIG Nkechi Eze, a distinguished clinician, dental surgeon, and administrator, brings to her new role over 27 years of professional excellence and service to the Force. Born in Umuahia, Abia State, and hailing from Agbudu in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, she holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife, and a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Benin.

Throughout her career, AIG Eze has served in several key formations across Oyo, Ekiti, Rivers, the Federal Capital Territory, and Lagos, where she distinguished herself through outstanding leadership, professionalism, and dedication to the welfare of police personnel. Her tenure in various medical and administrative capacities contributed significantly to advancing healthcare delivery and staff wellness within the Force.

While congratulating AIG Eze on her appointment, IGP Egbetokun described her as a “trailblazer and a consummate professional whose track record of integrity, discipline, and service excellence exemplifies the values of the Nigeria Police Force.” He urged her to harness her wealth of experience and visionary leadership to transform the Directorate into a model of efficiency and compassion in public sector healthcare delivery.

The Inspector-General further noted that the establishment of the Force Medical Services Directorate represents a strategic investment in the human capital of the police, ensuring that personnel and their families have access to quality healthcare that supports morale, efficiency, and service delivery.

The appointment of AIG Nkechi Eze, therefore, not only marks a new era in the medical services framework of the Nigeria Police Force but also reinforces the IGP’s unwavering drive to improve the welfare architecture of officers and men as part of broader institutional reforms under his administration.
