The Federal Government has urged Nigerian youths to take full advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise to actively participate in the democratic process, stressing that their involvement is vital to strengthening democracy and promoting good governance across the country.
This call was made by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, CON, when he received a delegation of the President’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Honour Award recipients of Benue origin, led by Simeon Aer, during a courtesy visit in Abuja.
According to a statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Segun Imohiosen, the SGF highlighted the premium the Tinubu-led administration places on youth welfare, empowerment, and inclusion in governance. He noted that the government continues to create enabling environments for young Nigerians to maximize their potential and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Senator Akume, while commending the awardees for their exceptional service and dedication during their NYSC year, urged them to continue to pursue their dreams with resilience and patriotism. He also called on youths nationwide to register and participate actively in elections, emphasizing that their voices and votes are critical for inclusivity and sustainable development.
“Youths must take ownership of the democratic process by registering and voting. Your participation is key to shaping the future of our nation and ensuring that our democracy remains vibrant and accountable,” the SGF said.
He congratulated the awardees for distinguishing themselves through selfless service and innovation, assuring them of automatic employment in recognition of their achievements and as a means to enable them to further contribute to national development.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Simeon Aer, explained that the purpose of the visit was to present to the SGF the various awards received by members of the Benue delegation during the President’s NYSC Honour Awards. He also introduced the Female Overall Best NYSC Member for the 2020–2023 cycle, Miss Akase Patience Nguwasen.
In her remarks, Miss Akase expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for recognizing her contributions to national development through the award. She encouraged serving and prospective corps members to prioritize passion for service over financial rewards, adding that genuine dedication to nation-building leaves lasting impact.
“I am deeply honoured by this recognition and I urge all corps members to serve with sincerity and purpose. When you put the nation first, your impact will speak for you long after your service year,” she said.
The visiting delegation comprised awardees of Benue State origin who were among the 200 recipients of the President’s NYSC Honour Award presented by President Tinubu in recognition of their outstanding contributions to national development between 2020 and 2023.
