The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Professor Charles Anosike, has once again received national recognition for his visionary leadership and outstanding contributions to digital transformation in public service delivery. He was honoured with the Distinguished GovTech Trailblazer’s Award at the Nigeria GovTech Public Service Awards 2025, held under the auspices of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) in The Presidency.
In addition to Professor Anosike’s individual recognition, NiMet emerged as the Best Federal MDA in Open Data Excellence, in acknowledgment of its exemplary performance in promoting data transparency, innovation, and open access to critical meteorological information that supports climate resilience and informed decision-making across sectors.
The double honour marks a remarkable milestone for NiMet, reaffirming the Agency’s commitment to leveraging technology and data-driven solutions to enhance national preparedness against climate-related risks, and to provide timely, accurate, and actionable weather and climate information to citizens and institutions.
In his citation, the BPSR commended NiMet for demonstrating leadership in integrating open data systems and digital tools into meteorological operations, noting that the Agency’s efforts have significantly strengthened the Federal Government’s broader digital transformation agenda. The recognition of Professor Anosike as a Distinguished GovTech Trailblazer further celebrates his strategic drive toward positioning NiMet among the world’s leading meteorological agencies, setting new benchmarks for transparency, innovation, and global competitiveness.
The Nigeria GovTech Conference and Awards is a flagship national initiative established by the BPSR to catalyze digital transformation within Nigeria’s public sector. It brings together key stakeholders from government, the private sector, technology firms, civil society, and academia to celebrate outstanding achievements in digital governance, promote technology-driven reforms, and encourage excellence in public service innovation.
Through its annual recognition of high-performing institutions and visionary leaders, the platform seeks to accelerate Nigeria’s transition toward efficient, transparent, and citizen-centered governance, in line with the Federal Government’s commitment to modernization and reform of the public service.
Among other distinguished awardees at the 2025 edition were His Excellency Malam Umar A. Namadi, Executive Governor of Jigawa State, and His Excellency Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Executive Governor of Adamawa State, both honoured for their exemplary contributions to digital innovation and public sector reform in their respective states.
