Troops of 2 Division/Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued two kidnapped victims during a swift counter-operation in Efagi village, under Lafiagi, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, following an early morning abduction on Friday, 10 October 2025.
In an official statement signed by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 22 Armoured Brigade Ilorin, Captain Stephen Nwankwo, the troops deployed at the Lafiagi Patrol Base were alerted to the incident and immediately mobilised to the scene in collaboration with local vigilante groups. The troops pursued the kidnappers into the surrounding areas and engaged them in a fierce gun battle, forcing the bandits to abandon their captives and flee into the forest.
Captain Nwankwo disclosed that the quick reaction of the troops led to the safe rescue of the two abducted victims, who were later reunited with their families. However, during the exchange of fire, one soldier and a vigilante member sustained gunshot wounds. Both were promptly evacuated to a nearby medical facility where they are currently receiving treatment.
He added that troops have continued to conduct further exploitation and clearance operations in the area to track down the fleeing kidnappers and prevent any resurgence of criminal activity.
The Commander, 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, commended the troops for their bravery, swift response, and professionalism during the operation. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s determination to sustain ongoing operations aimed at flushing out criminal elements from Kwara State and adjoining areas.
Brigadier General Barkins also urged residents to continue supporting the Nigerian Army and other security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could aid in combating crime and enhancing community safety.
The latest rescue underscores the Nigerian Army’s continued commitment under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, to intensifying counter-insurgency and counter-kidnapping operations across the country while fostering stronger collaboration with local communities in the fight against insecurity.
