Governor of Katsina State, Mallam Umar Dikko Radda, has lauded the Nigerian Army for its unwavering commitment and sacrifices in tackling the security challenges confronting Katsina State and the nation at large.

The Governor gave the commendation on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, during a courtesy visit to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.

In an official statement signed by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Governor Radda expressed profound appreciation for the professionalism, courage, and resilience of Nigerian Army troops deployed across Katsina State. He noted that their relentless operations have significantly reduced security threats and restored confidence among residents in affected communities.

Governor Radda particularly commended the COAS for his consistent support to troops and his strategic leadership, which he said has strengthened counter-banditry efforts across the state.

“The remarkable progress recorded in the fight against insecurity in Katsina State is largely due to the selfless sacrifice, commitment, and discipline of Nigerian Army personnel. Your visit to the state to motivate and interact with the troops has greatly boosted their morale and enhanced operational effectiveness,” he said.

The Governor also reiterated his administration’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the Nigerian Army, revealing that the Katsina State Government is working closely with the military to establish an additional Army unit in the state. According to him, the proposed formation will further consolidate the gains already recorded and strengthen the existing security architecture.

“We appreciate the strong synergy between the Katsina Watch Corps and the Nigerian Army, and the cordial relationship that exists with 17 Brigade. This kind of partnership is what we need to finally defeat the adversaries and ensure lasting peace in our state,” Governor Radda added.

In his response, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, commended Governor Radda for his sustained support to the Nigerian Army and other security agencies operating in Katsina State. He assured that under his leadership, the Nigerian Army will continue to make every necessary sacrifice to safeguard citizens, protect communities, and secure the nation’s territorial integrity.

“We deeply appreciate the Government and the good people of Katsina State for their tremendous support to our troops. The Nigerian Army remains fully committed to ensuring that law-abiding citizens live and work in peace while creating the conditions necessary for sustainable economic growth,” General Oluyede stated.

The visit, which further strengthened civil-military relations, underscored the shared resolve of both the Katsina State Government and the Nigerian Army to consolidate ongoing gains in the fight against insecurity and sustain peace across the North-West region.
