The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced plans to conduct a joint Route March Exercise involving personnel of the Armed Forces and other security agencies in Abuja on Friday, October 10, 2025.

In an official statement signed by the Director, Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the exercise is scheduled to commence at 5:00 a.m., with participants taking off from the Aguiyi Ironsi Cantonment football field through Mambilla Barracks and returning to the cantonment via Niger Barracks.

Brigadier General Gusau explained that the Route March is a routine physical fitness exercise designed to promote synergy, enhance physical readiness, and foster esprit de corps among members of the Armed Forces and sister security agencies. He noted that such joint activities strengthen cooperation and operational harmony across the nation’s security architecture.

“The exercise aims to reinforce the culture of teamwork, endurance, and discipline that are essential to the professional effectiveness of personnel across the Armed Forces and other security organizations,” the statement read in part.

The Defence Headquarters also appealed for understanding from members of the public, especially motorists and commuters within the Asokoro–AYA axis, who may experience temporary diversions during the event.

According to the statement, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other traffic management authorities will be on ground to ensure a smooth flow of traffic and provide necessary guidance to road users throughout the duration of the exercise.

While regretting any inconvenience the temporary traffic diversion might cause, the DHQ expressed appreciation for the cooperation and understanding of residents and commuters in the area.
