The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Zone D, has congratulated its pioneer Chairperson in Nasarawa State, Mrs. Patricia Akawu, on her appointment as the General Manager of the Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS) by Governor Abdullahi Sule.

Zone D of NAWOJ, which covers Benue, Nasarawa, Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Plateau, and the Federal Capital Territory, described Akawu’s elevation as a well-deserved recognition of her years of dedication, professionalism, and leadership in journalism.

In a statement signed by the Zonal Secretary, Mrs. Juliana Ofoku, the Vice President of the zone, Mrs. Chizoba Ogbeche, said the appointment was a testimony to Akawu’s experience and track record of excellence. She noted that her contributions to journalism and tireless advocacy for women’s rights had distinguished her as a voice of impact in the profession.

“The appointment of Mrs. Patricia Akawu as General Manager of NBS did not come as a surprise, given her outstanding contributions to journalism. Her dedication and expertise have earned her this recognition, and it is indeed a plus for the womenfolk to contribute to the development of Nasarawa State and the nation,” Ogbeche stated.

She commended Governor Sule for considering a seasoned journalist and administrator for the position, stressing that the decision underscored the government’s confidence in the capacity of women to meaningfully contribute to governance and the state’s development agenda.

Ogbeche further pledged the commitment of Nigerian women, especially within the North Central region, to continue supporting good governance and national development.

Mrs. Akawu, who previously headed the Department of News and Current Affairs at NBS, succeeds Mr. Aloko Flashman, who retired from service in May 2025.
