The Federal Government has approved the promotion of 1,163 officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in a major step to strengthen the Corps’ human resource capacity and advance its mandate of ensuring safer roads across Nigeria.

The approval, conveyed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, was announced in a statement issued by the Corps Public Education Officer, ACM Olusegun Ogungbemide. According to the statement, the decision underscores government’s continued commitment to recognising professionalism, hard work and dedication among personnel of key national institutions.

A breakdown of the promotion shows that 128 Chief Route Commanders have been elevated to Assistant Corps Commanders, 395 Superintendent Route Commanders to Chief Route Commanders, 310 Route Commanders to Superintendent Route Commanders, 91 Deputy Route Commanders to Route Commanders, while 239 Assistant Route Commanders are now Deputy Route Commanders.

In his remarks, Senator Akume commended the officers for their service and dedication to national development, noting that the exercise reflects the Federal Government’s resolve to reward excellence and strengthen institutions. He described the promotions as both recognition of past performance and a call to greater responsibility. “The promotion exercise is a proof of the confidence reposed in the Corps and its personnel to continue delivering on their mandate of ensuring safety on the nation’s roads. I urge all promoted officers to see this elevation as a call to higher responsibility and rededicate themselves to the service of our great nation,” he said.

Reacting to the development, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, applauded the Federal Government for the gesture, describing it as a morale booster and a clear demonstration of support for the FRSC. He explained that the exercise is in line with his administration’s policy thrust of promoting career progression, motivating personnel and driving organisational excellence.

While expressing gratitude to the SGF and the Presidency, Mohammed urged the newly promoted officers to uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity and professionalism. “This gesture will not only boost staff morale but also inspire them to greater dedication to duty,” he said.

The FRSC leadership expressed confidence that the elevation of officers across all ranks will further energise the Corps in its quest to reduce road traffic accidents, enforce traffic regulations and strengthen public safety nationwide.
