In a bid to promote collaboration in Disaster Risk Management within the state, the NEMA South-West Zonal Office convened a Stakeholders Consultative Meeting, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
During the event, the Executive Secretary of Oyo SEMA, Mrs. Ojuolape Busari, expressed gratitude to NEMA for organizing the timely forum and encouraged all attendees to adhere to the motto “if you see something, say something”. She also highlighted the efforts of the State Government, particularly through the Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project (IUFMP), in preparing for potential flood disasters.
Mr. Olanrewaju Kadiri, the NEMA SWZO Coordinator, emphasized the critical importance of effective Disaster preparedness and response in protecting community infrastructure, livelihoods, and the environment. He underscored the necessity of understanding and addressing the challenges and vulnerabilities faced by local communities.
The participants included representatives from key MDAs such as Oyo SEMA, NSCDC, FRSC, OYRTMA, IUFMP, Federal and State Fire Services, Ministries of Environment, Health, Education, and Information, as well as organizations like the Nigeria Red Cross and various NGOs and CSOs.
The meeting facilitated fruitful discussions, comments, and suggestions, resulting in actionable recommendations aimed at bolstering Disaster Management efforts in Oyo State.
