Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, CON, has applauded the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, for his visionary leadership and transformative innovations that have breathed new life into the agency.

The commendation came on Monday when the FRSC Corps Marshal, in company with the Executive Director of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) Foundation, Saul Billingsley, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the SGF in Abuja. Director of Information & Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Segun Imohiosen, disclosed this in an official statement.

Senator Akume, who praised the strides of the Corps Marshal, noted that Mohammed has significantly raised the bar since assuming office, deploying new ideas that have repositioned the FRSC for greater efficiency.

“The Corps Marshal, since assumption of office, has introduced a lot of innovations and improvements to the system, and these things are going to be unveiled tomorrow during the lecture,” the SGF said. “He has done quite a lot and is still doing well for the sector.”

He further extended commendation to Saul Billingsley, the FIA Foundation Executive Director, for his global advocacy and enlightenment campaigns aimed at reducing road traffic mortality and promoting road safety. According to him, such international partnerships are vital in tackling the challenges of road crashes and advancing safer mobility systems. The SGF also remarked that the present administration’s reforms are giving Nigeria “a new look,” as infrastructure and institutional improvements take root across the country.

Speaking earlier, the Corps Marshal explained that the purpose of the visit was to brief the SGF on the upcoming FRSC 8th Annual Lecture Series and to formally introduce its Guest Lecturer, Saul Billingsley, who has been a strong voice in promoting road mobility safety and reducing the environmental impact of transport systems.

In his remarks, Billingsley reaffirmed the FIA Foundation’s commitment to working with governments and civil society organisations to cut down road traffic casualties while improving sustainable transport solutions. He emphasised that the Foundation’s long-term vision is anchored on saving lives, building safer communities, and advancing cleaner, more efficient road transport globally.

The 8th FRSC Annual Lecture Series, where the Corps Marshal’s innovations are expected to be showcased, will serve as a major platform for knowledge exchange and international collaboration on road safety.
