In a coordinated naval operation aimed at enhancing maritime security in Nigeria’s coastal waters, Nigerian Navy Ships (NNS) Shiroro and Shere successfully berthed at the Aluminum Smelter Company (ALSCON) Jetty in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at approximately 1345 hours.
The berthing exercise was conducted with a high level of professionalism by the commanding officers of the two ships, Commander CM Egaikhide of NNS Shere and Lieutenant EL Egbe of NNS Shiroro alongside their respective ship companies. The arrival of both vessels is part of ongoing operational efforts to reinforce maritime presence and security within the jurisdiction of Nigerian Navy Ship Jubilee.
According to naval authorities, the deployment of the two platforms is expected to bolster surveillance, interdiction, and response capabilities in the Eastern Naval Command’s operational theatre, with particular emphasis on safeguarding strategic assets, deterring criminal activities, and promoting safer maritime commerce.
Receiving the ships at the ALSCON Jetty was the Executive Officer of NNS Jubilee, Captain AA Akinsanmi, who was accompanied by officers and ratings from the base. The team provided security and logistical support to ensure the seamless berthing of the arriving vessels.
The Nigerian Navy continues to prioritize operational mobility, inter-platform coordination, and presence projection as key strategies in addressing maritime threats and supporting national economic interests across Nigeria’s territorial waters.
