In a major stride toward enhancing Nigeria’s digital identity infrastructure, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced the successful migration of all telecommunications companies in the country to its newly developed National Identification Number (NIN) verification platform, known as NINAuth.
This milestone was disclosed in an official statement signed by NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, who described the transition as a significant advancement in the Commission’s quest to improve the security, efficiency, and user experience of NIN verification services for millions of Nigerians.
According to the statement, the NINAuth platform, designed and implemented in-house by the NIMC, provides a seamless, secure, and more convenient process for verifying citizens’ identities. The migration of telecom operators to the platform means that subscribers across all networks can now enjoy uninterrupted and faster identity verification when accessing SIM-related services.
“This achievement is the product of painstaking work by NIMC to give power and control of NIN data back to the rightful owners the Nigerian people,” Adegoke said. “NINAuth reinforces data protection, ensures secure authentication, and allows citizens to manage how and when their data is used, all while improving access to essential services.”
The Director of IT/IDD at NIMC, Engr. Lanre Yusuf, also confirmed that the migration process for all telecom firms has been completed successfully and that real-time verification services are now being provided without disruptions.
In addition to its improved security features, the NINAuth platform supports single sign-on access, enhancing convenience for users seeking to access public and private sector services that require NIN authentication.
NIMC further assured the general public that its Verification and Authentication Service platforms remain fully functional and accessible, encouraging users experiencing difficulties related to new SIM registration, SIM swap, SIM migration, or welcome-back services to contact their respective telecommunications providers directly for swift resolution.
With the successful rollout of NINAuth, NIMC reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to delivering secure, efficient, and user-centric identity management services to all Nigerians, thereby supporting national digital transformation efforts and fostering trust in public infrastructure.
This latest development is expected to significantly improve the country’s digital identity ecosystem, boost data protection, and deepen public confidence in identity-based services, further positioning NIMC as a central pillar in Nigeria’s digital future.
